A doll created to reflect the image of a Muslim woman is outselling its western rival, Barbie, in several countries across the Middle East.
The Fulla doll first came to the Syrian market in 2003 and has proved so popular that it is now used in advertising and is to feature in a film.
Malcolm Borthwick reports from Syria.

  • I was about to get a Fulla doll. Arabic doll? Not all Arabs are Muslim, not me! Nice way to brainwash little kids into oppression and no personality.

  • @DARKEYED9 Thats probably true, but I guess its to do with money. If there is a market for these religious dolls, then people will try and produce them and sell it !!!

how would a doll brainwash little kids into oppression?... On the contrary, did you ever recognize how barbie gives children an unrealistic body image and standard of beauty?

  • Interesting, though, she has dark hair but very pale skin. One more thing: New Boy will be unhappy to learn that the inventor of the original Barbie was Ruth Mosko Handler, a Jewish-American businesswoman. Barbie is an invention of the Jews!

  • Nooooooooo Wayyyyy ! Women should never be Oblige to Man, we are equal and nobody will force me to wear this crapppp ! Women are freeeeeeeee under Islam they are NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Men are barbaric !

  • I like the idea of Fulla dolls. Though Barbie had the original concept it inspired Fulla doll when it comes to equality for women and showing them great opportunities and careers in life like an independent woman is. Barbie symbolizes fame, fashion, vanity and creativity and with that she became an icon. Fulla doll in the other hand portrays Islamic approach like being conservative and religious and shows good example to Islam children. I love the animated movies of Fulla really catchy! ^_^

  • dude when girls are around 13 they are done with barbies and dolls and know its unrealistic and its not ok to be like that and go do their math homework gese muslims are way to conservative

  • @eugelu11 I see Barbie in my Muslim neighborhood but I never said what u r saying

  • I, for one, like Fulla.

  • I don't know why in my neighbourhood (in Argentina) I have seen several fulla stickers, but I have never seen or met a Muslim in this country. Are they trying to brainwash our kids, our future?

  • I can understand the idea of modesty, when I see dolls half naked I think my child will look up to this as an "Ideal" way to dress, and so when I buy my niece a doll I do tend to pick doll with a full dress and ball gowns instead of mini skirts and huge high heels.

not sure about the Hijab, but then in not muslim so i cant say, but even if i was i think i would just make a Hijabi outfit for my child's doll instead of buying this.

  • @DARKEYED9 wow.. there are so many things wrong with what you just wrote, its actually astounding your capable of using a computer.
