It is easy to raise chickens in your backyard or garden. all you need are a few simple things and permission from the local city or county.

  • answered all my questions. Great info.

  • I love all the peeping in the background. so cute!

  • Two reasons for keeping chooks.... They are so much fun and their eggs are to die for!

  • mY family and i used to have approx over 15 Hens and a rooster in our in our urban backyard (300 Meters from the main street, 51 000 city population)we had very minimal complaints lol the space they had was approx 5x3 M indoors,1.5x4 M outdoor run + two 1x1.5 M seperate rooms for nesting hens& chickens they seemed pretty happy to us lol.....we spent very little to none cash on building this hen sanctury, only random boards and planks and chicken wire that was lying around the place...good times

  • he looks like the guy from howcast.....

  • hehehe,i have that book

  • @Gentilseulement That was my thought as well, but it will be a long up hill battle. everyone I talk to needs to be informed on the truth about chickens ( hens ) they all think they are load and are scared about bird flu. The funny thing is that the city I live in is fairly small and all the cities around us let you have chickens, guess it is time to vote out the city counsel and then start over :)

  • @woodturningjohn What about the idea of interesting people to the cause and launch a movement to pressure the City in allowing chickens?

  • @MrBagginsEsq No clue, some chowder head on the city counsel must like them flying rats, have not been able to get them to tell me yet how they are better then chickens. Some people are just lucky that breathing is automatic.

  • @woodturningjohn Why have pigeons any way? Chickens you get eggs. But what do you get from pigeons?

  • Would be great, but our city will not allow chickens. You can have pigeons but not chickens. The only thing I can get out of them is "that is what the law says" it is like talking to a stone. They also charge $300 for a application just to talk to the counsel. After the green house is up they will not even know I have chickens.
