In 1971, during filming of The Big Boss, an actor, Martial Artist, and Hong Kong Boxing Champion, Lau Dai-Chuen issued a challenge to Bruce via the newspaper.
Bruce shrugged it off not paying any attention to it, but the press continued to egg them on until Bruce had no choice but to accept.
Since unsanctioned martial arts fighting were illegal, a secret bout was staged in the Northern Territories of Hong Kong at a private villa... the rest is either real or legend.
You decide.

All legend I'm afraid. The story seems to conflate Bruce's amateur boxing match with a challenge on the set of Enter the Dragon (which ended with Bruce paying for the hospital of his defeated challenger).

@profwaffel yes I'm afraid so too. After listening to Bruce's phone conversation with Daniel Lee, I'm certain no confrontation was made between them. However, it could also be said that the secret bout occurred after Bruce's phone conversation.
