From Chicago - Smokers may be able to quickly see the effects that smoking has on their bodies. Using a pulse CO-oximeter, researchers were able to show high levels of carboxyhemoglobin and methhemoglobin in smokers, both of which are seen in those with CO poisoning and which cannot carry oxygen. The levels of these molecules were significantly lower in non-smokers.

From Washington - Nearly a third of Americans are suffering from "extreme" stress, according to a survey of nearly 2000 subjects. The survey also revealed that nearly half were losing sleep from it and many complained of fatigue, headaches and stomach pains. For many the cause of stress was related to financial pressure linked to subprime loans.

From Houston - Poor judgement, technical incompetence and a lack of supervision are the usual causes of errors made by medical residents according to a review of 240 claims. 30% of these cases were found in OB/GYN.

And finally from Atlanta - According to the CDC, children over the age of 2 can safely use FluMist, an intranasal vaccine against influenza. It is hoped that intranasal delivery will improve adherence to vaccinations as only 1 in 5 toddlers are fully immunized. FluMist should not be used in those with asthma or wheezing.
