http://www.premierguitar.com PG's reviewer Tony Pasko walks us through his latest review - the Hagstrom Swede (found inside the January 2010 issue of Premier Guitar).

As Tony states, the Swede is based on the vintage model made originally from 1970-1982 by Hagstrom and features a mahogany body with a carved mahogany body and 24.75" set mahogany neck. The neck has a H-Expander truss rod providing tension at either end and running the entire length of the neck, the rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors instrumental in making a Hagstrom a fast playing guitar. The fretboard is made from Hagstroms own Resinator wood, a composite wood that is homogeneous in nature and is said to be more stable than any standard wood product.

The Swede comes loaded with two Hagstrom Custom 58 humbuckers, Long Travel Tune-O-Matic with Hagstrom stop tail piece and 6-individual brass string blocks.

  • i wouldn't say its a beginner guitar since its $675...and why would you want a challenge when playing guitar, or "shredding"? lol...and the higher frets make it easier to "shred"... lol not obstacles.

lol i don't think you have a clue about what you're talking about.

  • Wow !!!! Ripping tone !

  • Does this guitar sounds the same as the superswede models without using that tone filter?

  • @Crucius1 Epiphone guitars cannot compete with Hagstrom guitars. hagstrom is more the gibson level. very impressive sound and excellent build quality.

I got my super swede for 450€ (new!). Regular price is about 550€....not cheap but it's totally worth ot!

  • The Hagstrom Swede is a beautiful guitar. I use them with my band The Gypsy Bangles with a Ceriatone 50w plexi for a fantastic vintage Blues/Rock sound. Check out our tunes and see for yourself...

  • @Crucius1 No contest whatsoever regardless of version - Hagstrom all the way. If you want pure vintage, get the super swede. If you want the vintage tones combined with more modern versatility, get the Ultra Swede Select. I'm a lefty, therefore very very few guitars around to try out. I had to buy one without playing it first on Amazon. Best decision I ever made. Sound is incredible and flexible. Build quality is equally impresssive. The finishes on some of these rival a legit PRS.

  • @huanton2many its a bit like a fender... or a thin gibson... very special to play, but i`d never played a Les Paul whith such a comfortable neck.

  • @albin94fotboll ... I know. It's a composite material consisting of both wood and epoxies.

  • excellent review , rock on bro !!

  • what is the neck like?

  • yeeeaaaa too bad they're made in china lmao
