DIY VirtuStick 3D-Sanner extends the range of your mobile 3D-scanner. Get the thing for private use at Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:45495

Follow the discussion about PrimeSense based 3D-Scanners like Kinect and Asus Xtion at http://www.diy3dscan.com

Two servos and a joystick position your scanner precisely. All parts are 3D-printed. The design is open source and you can use it for private use for free.

Now you can scan large objects, or things out of the reach of your handheld scanner.

I hope you enjoy my work. Messages are welcome :)

Bernhard

Well, I admire the effort you've made, but I do not see any result. What does the captured data look like? Is it workable? Supplements are welcome. Greetings.

The purpose of this video was to show the workig principle of the scanner. Please have a look on my other uploads for 3D scans with the Asus Xtion Pro.

In my next video I will demo the VirtuStick with real life examples.

Hi! The software for Kinect type scanners, like the Asus Xtion has Geometry-, and Texture Tracking features. It enables the scanner to generate a full 3D model by analyzing the differences between the single 3D pictures the scanner captures during the scan process. You can have a look on this tracking feature, if you watch my tutorials of Artec Studio and Scenct. Hope this helps :)
