Inside Story Polygamy - part 1 of 5

The US lawmakers made polygamy illegal first in 1862 under the Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act. If you go to Utah though, there are many practicing polygamy although it is illegal there but not enforced as much.

Ok, who decided that polygamy should be illegal? If you can accept a man marying to another man or a woman marying to another woman, you can accept anything.

I'm so confused...my Mormon friends tell me this has nothing to do with Mormonism, but the founders of their church (Joseph Smith, Brigham Young) practiced polygomy. But Christians (hopefully) don't follow all of our forefathers (look at the Crusades!), so I can't decide how I feel about this. =/ I DO know that this is a horrifying practice, and should be stopped.

What was wrong with the crusades. We should of wiped out Islam when we had the chance and we wouldn't have these problems today

I am Wiccan, so im not saying this from a religious point of view, but why cant people just let others live their lives as they want to? What difference does it make, it doesnt affect anyone else but them...as long as they are consenting adults, and they are happy then its none of anyone elses buisiness

I agree! However, in some of these groups, there is physical and sexual violence and I do feel the law has the right to step in on these groups. All considering, I have seen several interviews with Independent Fundamentalist Mormons where I see no problem with their lifestyle. I don't may two gay men or two lesbians living together, why should I be bothered by polygamists?

Well because they think its wrong and they think someone is being manipulated for what ever reason. If you are really open minded then you wouldn't have a problem with an adult and child being in a romantic relationship as long as both agree to it.

Yes, that is very true, if we are talking about consenting adults. The problem with FLDS is that young underage girls are being forced into polygamus marraiges and are stripped of all their human rights. That's why it is not ok.

Oh yeah so they should be able to marry 14 year old girls
