English - In 1955, Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau sailed aboard Calypso from her home port of Toulon on a voyage that would take her and her divers over 12,000 nautical miles through the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. Their mission: to film the underwater world. The result: an Academy Award and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for The Silent World.

Français - En 1955, le Commandant Jacques-Yves Cousteau quittait son port d'attache de Toulon, avec ses plongeurs, à bord de la Calypso pour un voyage qui devait lui faire parcourir plus de 12 000 miles nautiques en mer Méditerranée, sur la mer Rouge et dans l'océan Indien. Sa mission : filmer le monde sous-marin. Le résultat : un Oscar du meilleur film documentaire et une Palme d'Or au Festival de Cannes pour "Le Monde du silence".

Incredible. These guys were diving to 165' with no depths gauges, no submersible pressure gauges, not even the old J-valve reserve valves. And no exposure suits? Believe me, even in the warmest part of the Med, it's cold at 165' or even 65'. What balls....
