The quarry is still operational, thats why you see the lorries going out. They deliver all the raw materials to the cement works at Rugby which is owned by the same company, Rugby Cement. There's also some sort of recycling facility on the site but the actual cement works itself hasn't been operational for several years. Some of the equipment was sold to a firm in India so they couldn't use it now even if they wanted to. Its a huge site.

You are right, the site is still used, but cement production has ceased. The quarries are still operating and raw materials are stored. I believe there is a connection with another cement works near Rugby. All was quiet when we visited at a weekend!

My Dad worked there until shortly before it closed down, so I've been there several times while it was operational and know a lot of the former staff. Its quite creepy seeing it all derelict like that. You made it seem very atmospheric though!

Thanks for your message. I would have liked to have seen it before the place closed. Its a shame these big plants are shutting - I spent 20 years working in large factories, and was always fascinated by these processes. Its interesting trying to work out how it all worked!

I am certain the place is out of commission already - it would take a lot of effort to get everything operational again.
