Arthur & Jason visited this disused cement works in May 2007. Very grey, very dusty & lots of steep ladders!

  • weird i live next door to the cement works and it still has lorries in and out of there all times of day and night so hate to inform u all it still works

  • You are right, the site is still used, but cement production has ceased. The quarries are still operating and raw materials are stored. I believe there is a connection with another cement works near Rugby. All was quiet when we visited at a weekend!

  • My Dad worked there until shortly before it closed down, so I've been there several times while it was operational and know a lot of the former staff. Its quite creepy seeing it all derelict like that. You made it seem very atmospheric though!

  • Thanks for your message. I would have liked to have seen it before the place closed. Its a shame these big plants are shutting - I spent 20 years working in large factories, and was always fascinated by these processes. Its interesting trying to work out how it all worked!

  • a bit crass , but i guess its out of commission by a few yrs !

  • I am certain the place is out of commission already - it would take a lot of effort to get everything operational again.

  • The quarry is still operational, thats why you see the lorries going out. They deliver all the raw materials to the cement works at Rugby which is owned by the same company, Rugby Cement. There's also some sort of recycling facility on the site but the actual cement works itself hasn't been operational for several years. Some of the equipment was sold to a firm in India so they couldn't use it now even if they wanted to. Its a huge site.

  • 30 yrs ago ,i lived within sight of the chimney ,guess im outta touch lol

  • With gratitude for your comments - it is indeed a splendid place to spend an afternoon!

  • Another great vid, like the intro graphics, apt music score for atmospher, well taken photos and effects. Enjoyed much.
