In a show on France 24 Christopher Hitchens says he is sure Barack Obama is not a believer in light of the book he wrote before he ran for office.
The rest of the answer is not related to Obama, being about Hitchens getting US citizenship.

@tjones590 RIP normally goes on graves and implies an afterlife, therefore the supernatural. Hitchens would not believe in those things.

@Ali74 People overestimate how religious America is, and Britain has it own religious problems, specifically the hereditary monarchy which is innately religious. If Britain wants to be seen as progressive and secular, they should abolish the monarchy.
