One of the great, lost prog rock albums, Dr. Z's Three Parts to My Soul ended up being one of the rarest albums on the "swirl" Vertigo label, with only 80 copies said to exist. Luckily it was reissued many times, starting with Second Battle in Germany, Si- Wan in Korea, Universal in Japan, and most recently Akarma in Italy. Most of these reissues replicate the original gimmick cover (a die-cut fold-out cover not unlike ELP's Brain Salad Surgery).Ripped By: ChrisGoesRock
About 70 copies sold and rest of the pressing were trashed.

I bought my original spiral label dr. z copy in early 80,s.Just 10 mk. Simply because of the cover art,but the music hit hard.Maybe the music was ahead of its time and lyrics too weird. Merry christmas from Finland

I think you are wrong. Love this song and the rest of the album isn't too bad either.
the Vertigo label is praised for all its good releases. Because of digital music a lot more ppl can listen to it today than in the 70's. Gotta love that.

with a few exceptions (high tide being one of them), many of the unknown UK prog groups were and remain unknown for a reason: their mediocreness. witness dr. Z. contrary to nowadays, in the 70s it was the good stuff that was appreciated and became well-known, not the crap!

quite obviously, the cover art is the best thing about this band...unoriginal melody, mediocre vocals...all rather average; even for UK progressive rock.
admittedly, it`s difficult to clamber down from the heights reached by the likes of gentle giant or king crimson. (to be continued)
