Our 2011 Halloween Costume is completed! He wanted to be Tron (Orange/yellow lighting instead of blue)
One Transformers 1 piece nylon costume from Goodwill (painted Black)
Gloves, boots, play helmet.
50' EL Wire & 4 AA Inverters (3 for suit, 1 for disc).
Paper patterns were made for the wiring. Then a Polyester white banner material was cut using the paper patterns. Double strands of EL Wire was glued onto it, then covered with some foam packing material to help diffuse the light evenly. This was all wrapped in an orange 'sailcloth'. I chose 3 inverters to keep the voltage down. Little to no shock with these while testing. One of each of these were made for:
1) Left side chest, and upper arm, down leg, and connects to boot.
2) Right side chest, and upper arm, down leg and connect to boot
3) Both arms, back, and connect to helmet (Single strand EL Wire on this one)
Each of these 'traces' was then glued into place using FABRI-TAC adhesive (Awesome stuff for gluing onto clothing). 'Pleather' was then cut into shapes and glued in between many of the EL Wire traces. Connections between boots and pantlegs, and back to helmet were made using 9volt battery connectors (Easy to connect/disconnect).
A harddrive magnet was used on the disc (has its own inverter), and a small metal plate glued into the back of the costume so the disc can be removed easily. I stole this idea from another tron costume video here on you tube but forget who it was (Thanks! Great Idea!)
In all, about $140 (50' EL Wire and inverters was $100 alone) and about 50-60 hours of work...
yeah I realize too late I spelled Boba Fett wrong. :( in a hurry i suppose.
