Excerpt from the entrance of this 2009 Eucharistic Day, a joint celebration by St. Mary's and St. Adalbert's Roman Catholic churches in Schenectady New York. This year, it is hosted by St. Mary's. The celebrant is Rev Carl Urban, pastor of St. Adalbert's and the Blessed Sacrament is carried by Rev Richard Carlino, pastor of St. Mary's. This year's event is rather sad as it is the final time that it will be held at St. Mary's Church; the church is closing at the end of June, 2009. St. Mary's was founded in 1892 by Polish immigrants (my grandparents among them), St. Adalberts was founded some years later (I can't remember how many) due to an ever growing population of Polish immigrants and their descendants. Eucharistic Day was once known as Forty Hours Devotion and took place over three days. Sr. Mary's held Forty Hours every year on the Sunday before Palm Sunday and on the Monday and Tuesday as well. Maybe 10, 15 years ago, it was "cut back" to one day only. I'm guessing that St. Adalbert's did this annually as well. In more recent years, these two parishes alternated hosting this celebration, probably because of fewer priests and increasing responsbilities.
You can read more information about this service by going to the "introduction" video of the same title from my putting up clips from 2008.
