In Detroit which is one of the most predominantly black cities in the USA, the black dispatchers identify race of potential perps to the black officers as a matter of procedure. So am I to assume all these blacks are racist? I hope not. When we roll up on a scene often there are numerous people and we need to know ASAP who the potential aggressor or criminal is, just in case violence becomes an issue. This is in FACT for the safety for all involved including the possible Perp.

I agree with those who say you need to get a profile. It's a best practices thing , like make, model and color on a stolen auto.

I would feel better about it if they just asked "complexion?" or "skin tone? I think that "white, Latin or black" is sort of a carry over from the past when we were a lot less diverse. Why not ask if Asian, Native American, Arabic etc?

I think it's time to update the 911 dispatch questionnaire.

Stupid to ask what race? The cops are trying to get a quick identification, race (wether we like it or not) is a part of that. One has to wonder, when a police officer is asking what race a potential crime suspect is...

who is being oversensitive to to race, the police...

the dispatcher was stupid for asking about their race which really has nothing to do with the situation and the caller was stupid for talking to the dispatcher so lightly and laughing about a matter that should be taken seriously especially since sh'e the one who created the entire situation.

that woman is such an idiot for calling the police. she should have been smart enough to realize that the men carrying the suitcases (Mr. Gates and his driver) were probably returning home from a trip (China). If I were her, I would mind my own buisiness and not get involved.
