  • when do you need to re-paste the GPU? will you hear a difference in sound? or will the laptop just tell you that its over heating??

  • @michaelfarrell6 Well on the R3 the thermal design is excellent better than basically any other laptop brands out there. I still recommend re-pasting because Dell does not use expensive paste and everyone who re-pastes with the right paste such as the one I used in the video will experience less heat and a cooler running GPU. The difference in the CPU is not as noticeable though.

  • I think using 0.5 mm is a bad idea. I followed your guide and tried Fujipoly 0.5mm and I am experiencing throttling, possible Vram overheating since GPUZ temps are fine. I checked the stock pad and it is 1.0 mm.

  • @Kasumiwings I personally did not experience throttling. You can use the 1mm but I am not sure that will change your temps. It could be that you simply got an air bubble in between your pad and the heat sink. It happens. If it happens to someone else, I will edit the video to make mention of this possible issue.

  • cool vid. are fuij-poly the best pads out there? and do you void the warranty on your laptop by re-pasting it?

  • @SpiralTrance The best not sure but they are certainly much better than the stock ones. In theory, the warranty is voided but if the GPU is not the cause of your PC failure, there is no reason that the rest of the warranty is voided.

Thanks for the help. You did not use Fujipoly in the vid did you? The color looks different. I am not experiencing throttling with stock clocks. It always happens with a little OC. And it happens in every Furmark stability test with 775/1000 clock which is weird because thats not even much. The temperature reading are much better than before but I had no throttling before repase. :(

  • @joebarchuck in theory? i've learned when dealing with companies like dell they will try and get out of giving you a new machine if they can. would they be able to tell you've opened the laptop up and repasted?

  • @SpiralTrance The CPU temps are so amazing on this PC that there is no reason to re-paste until you experience a temp issue. Also, it's nearly impossible to do a large OC on these CPU therefore the heat is never really high enough to justify the time spent.

  • and forgot to ask why didn't you re-paste the cpu? doesn't it need repasting?
