it's because you don't have the extended battery. The extended battery requires a larger back cover, thus the bust in the back.

weird, I have a Moto Q9c but the back doesn't look like that is completely flat.

I love this phone. My phone company now is Alltel and finally I bought a Moto Q9c for alltel, I am soooo happy about that. For that reason I'm selling my Sprint Moto Q9c, if interested, please go to EBAY and search for item number 180354309907. Thanks.

I have a camera for photos. I have the Q for phone calls and internet for my laptop. ha? For most people a high resolution camera on the phone would be nice, but it's not really a deal breaker.
