O vin dissipe la tristesse

Michael Miersma here again nearing the end of 22 years singing "O vin dissipe la tristesse" from Ambroise Thomas' Hamlet. Sang this for another voice area recital in May of 2009. My french leaves something to be desired, I know, and the coloratura needs some polish but I'm pretty happy with it overall. Again, another video for family, friends, and whoever else is interested in my singing. Trying to get a better quality copy up but this may be the only one available. Thanks Jim for recording.

Mr. Miersma, over the weekend I watched a DVD of the Met's "Ballo in Maschera"

from 1991. I'm sure you know of the baritone Leo Nucci, who was the Renato.

While I found Mr. Nucci's performance to be fine, your voice on your two videos

provides considerably more pleasure! I hope you will be Germont in next

spring's "La Traviata." It is good to know that such amazing, young talent is right here in Tampa! All the best to you in the future.

What a great dark, rich voice! Hopefully one day you will be able to push the tempo a little faster, but this is a good start.

Je ne partage pas votre opinion lorsque vous dites qu'on aurait pu faire mieux. Ce jeune homme au talent très prometteur doit impérativement travailler avec un coach de langue, comme tout soliste professionnel. Il n'y a qu'ainsi que l'on pallie aux problèmes de prononciation. Regardez José van Dam! Quelle que soit la langue abordée, sa prononciation est toujours irréprochable. Je dis bien: TOUJOURS!!!

@Falkenlab Entièrement d'accord sur la prononciation, mais sait-on la difficulté de la langue pour les anglo-saxons..., certains professionnels de l'art n'auraient pu faire mieux.

Pour son âge, excellente voix, c'est vrai. S'il continue ainsi, il ira loin. Mais pas du tout d'accord pour la diction. Beaucoup d'endroits où l'on ne comprend pas, ainsi que la prononciation de certains mots erronée. Mais très bien dans l'ensemble pour un si jeune baryton. Je suis impressionné...
