  • hi i jammed my finger like last year & i had to wear a splint & i been wearing it for months & it alomst been a year & it still hadn't been straight & i have a ip joint deviation too,

can it get better with the oval 8 splint or i will need surgery? & also the drs. said if i do get surgery my finger will get worse? ):

  • @xVietThanqx Thank you for your inquiry about your finger problem. To read about conditions that may describe the problem you are experiencing, please visit our website. You can also visit our Oval-8 page to learn more. We recommend that you follow up with your doctor. If you need assistance in finding a hand surgeon or a hand therapist in your area, please visit our website.

  • It's the doctor's decision whether a broken finger is put in a cast or a splint. The severity of the injury & specific location of the fracture will play a major role. Other factors may be how active the patient is, how compliant, ...

In some cases a doctor may prescribe a cast first and then a splint after the cast is removed.

It is best to ask your doctor if you have any questions. Not all doctors know about this splint. You can print info from the 3-Point web site to take to your doctor.

  • @3PointProducts Does the cast include the wrist. I know if you break a metacarpal you get a cast. I have broken my tibia but the treatment was very different. I am healed now. My break was bad so I had to wear a long leg cast for a month. then two shorter casts for two more months then a boot for a month. My Dad has torn the flexor tendon in his finger but the problem is he doesn't want a splint or cast. He is not-compliant he doesn't want to wear a splint or cast, he wants to exercise.

  • @080594M127 Your dad really needs to see a doctor & get proper care! Just because he has a hand injury doesn't mean he has to stop all types of exercise. It is important to get the proper treatment to prevent long term problems & complications, which are often underestimated! Things may get worse with time if you don't fix them right away & sometimes can't be fixed later. A splint or cast may be inconvenient for a few weeks but imagine not being able to use that finger properly long term.

  • Yes, you can still bend your fingers when the splint is worn with the band down and the oval on top of the finger. On our web site check the images on the Home & Testimonials page showing the splints in different uses.

IMPORTANT: You need to be fitted by a doctor or hand therapist who has a sizing set or full Oval-8 kit since the only way to determine the correct fit is by trying on the actual splints. (14 sizes sizes). The dr./therapist also determines if the splint needs modification for you.

  • Imma stick with the splint.

if you can bend your finger its obviously not helping you....

  • I play basketball and i constantly get jammed and sprained fingers. I always wrap about a foot and a hf long piece of duct tape around the finger(s) and it works everytime. Even did this with a broken finger once, which took a month or so to heal. In fact i just jammed 2 of my fingers today and im using the tape now :D

  • My Dad rebroke his finger, I tried a metal splint on him, he didn't wear it. I am thinking about figuring out if the doctor can just put it in a hand cast, can't they just cast the two fingers together and not cast the hand.

  • My finger is swollen on the back where do I get one of these!??!

  • I agree with you. When I broke my tibia I got it casted right away. I tried walking on it with limited weight and I couldn't so I hopped to the car and I told my Dad please drive me to the Doctor. Since it was set properly my knee is stronger than it was before the break. I didn't break it but they casted it because I had limited motion at the knee because of where I broke it.

  • @3PointProducts I agree but his Doctor said first of all it is too late it happened in August and he will need to break the finger and place a pin in it and splint up the finger. His doctor said the you can't really cast a broken finger but I think you can. My Doctor is also an orthopedist and said it can be casted. But the thing is he referees games and needs to use his hands. Well I know it healed up but it healed up wrong he doesn't have a full range of motion with it, however his hand does.
