A Secret Life came about through John Foxx meeting ex-Japan percussionist, Steve Jansen, at a Brigthon live performance with Harold Budd, in May 2005.
Foxx invited Steve Jansen to record percussions for a potential collaborative album. The dark tones of the sounds created a bed for atmospherics and acoustic piano work to be added.
Due to various other commitments the recordings seemed to be shelved until Foxx band member Steve D'Agostino took the initiative and completed the work.
The album is now released under the names D'Agostino/Foxx/Jansen. A Secret Life is clearly the most unusual album in Foxx's catalogue, offering a bizarre and often unsettling soundscape in which to escape.
