5 stars, this was good, it was pretty easy with a small screwdriver, didn't damage anything. Mine went dead after 3 months and I was hoping I could plug it into SATA but it is USB only as someone else said. Was able to put back together for warranty replacement.

I have one of these. Model is WD5000MT-00 Simple question can I open it up and replace the USB to SATA connector
I'm pretty sure mine is gone as it starts up then stops. Any advice please? Thx

Oy, really? Using the words 'gay' and 'retarded'? Be sentative, grow up a little.

BEWARE! This video is really good, but the fault is WD.
The new one with USB3 is NOT sata nor ide, they made it literally USB. So you can NOT use it internally because there is no conversion board. You can not see it in the video, but it's in the shiny metal thing under the hd at the end of the video. New one with usb3 do not have it. If you have the older usb2 version, go ahead, it will be most probably sata (or ide). USB3 is literally usb3... Sad...

When you took it out you made it look easy.

Hey man, great video. I was just wondering how you formatted it to work in your laptop? Did you have a windows CD or something? Thanks for any help you can give.

@dannyb4283 At that time I did a clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium, still have the 250GB HD in my Dell Vostro with Windows 7 Home Premium cause Vista was buggy and kept on giving me the BSOD.

Its actually Seagate having problems. I trust WD and mine is still going strong. Check out reviews on newegg, etc on hard drives.
