Part 2

Cookstown College show produced in 2004, stars the pupils with memorable performances from Clíona Hagan and sister Nicole, Eamon Mc Crystal, Gareth Nugent, Nial Mc Aleer, Sammy Coleman, Ryan Leonard.

Written by the legendary Willy Russell, Blood Brothers is set in Liverpool in 1962. Mrs Johnstone and her family live in a poor part of Liverpool, in stark contrast to Mr and Mrs Lyons who live a much more comfortable life in the sophisticated end of town. Mrs Johnstone is deserted by her husband and takes a job as a housekeeper to make ends meet. But her fragile world comes crashing down when she discovers she is pregnant again with twins!

Blood Brothers was originally commissioned from writer Willy Russell by Paul Harman's Merseyside Young People's Theatre Company (at the Everyman Theatre) for Secondary school children. It was first performed as a play at Fazakerley Comprehensive, Liverpool in November 1981. Willy Russell then spent the next year turning the play into a full-scale musical at Liverpool Playhouse, revising the book, writing the lyrics and composing all the music himself. He went on to become a multi-talented playwright, musician and novelist, with the musical of Blood Brothers which has scooped four awards for Best Musical In London, seven Tony nominations on Broadway and receives a standing ovation at every single performance since its opening. It is hailed by the critics as one of the best musicals of all time.

Willy Russell is undeniably one of this countrys leading contemporary dramatists. His countless credits also include the highly acclaimed and much-loved plays Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine.

  • Seriously?

Who's your sound engineer? He/She should be shot. The actors are fine, the sound is fine, but everybody looks like they're growing a horn right in the middle of their forehead.

I'm trying to listen to her but all I can think about is that tumor on her face...
