Dr Hook and the Medicine Show - Pennicilin Penny (1972)

Penicillin Penny she's the queen of the sunset strip
If she ever gives you any then you better see your doctor real quick
From the back seat of Cadillac cars, to the floor of men's room bars
She's Penicillin Penny and her future's written in the stars

She's Penicillin Penny and ever since the day she came and came
They say she's had so many, she gives 'em all numbers not names
I always call her Hun' but she calls me 1001
And Penicillin Penny starts to boogie when the day is done

She's Penicillin Penny and if you ever see her passin' through
Better run into your house before she stops and lays a little on you
If you ever let her in your door it takes 20 million units
Or more to cure the love that Penicillin Penny's gonna lay on you

  • @bowiemott I thought we were commenting onthe song not the equipment. who cares what eq

  • Where did you find this footage?

  • Cool Hippie band

  • This is my favorite version of "Penicillin Penny" by far, and one of my favorite Dr. Hook recordings, period. I love the studio version, but in my opinion this is even better.

  • If ya got vd say woot!

  • Looks like the back line is all Peavy amps. which, at the time of this filming, were very affordable and frequently used by hard touring bands. Lynyrd Skynyrd also used Peavys. At the time there were musicians who felt these amps lacked quality though plenty of groups managed to get some very good sounds with them. I suppose if I could have afforded a Marshall in 1972 I would have bought one but settling for the PEavy wasn't bad at all.

  • This track is the highlight of a great Hook performance- their brilliance and hillarious madness captured when they were at their peak. Seek this entire perfomance out, folks! There is nothing else like it.

  • its a thin fat freddy

  • I'd love to hear two songs, Let the loose end drag, and I wanna make then women tremble.
