Chessington World of Adventures & Zoo officially announced the arrival of Mbula, the Zoo's baby Western Lowland Gorilla, to the world on Thursday 28 May with a traditional African naming ceremony. In the final round of celebrations and festivities, Nzinga Dance performed a common African ritual to celebrate both his birth on the 10 March and also his name, which was voted for by the public on the Chessington website. Mbula is the first baby for happy couple Buu and Damisi and his name means 'Year,' which coincides with 2009 being named the 'Year of the Gorilla,' a world-wide appeal promoted by WAZA (World Association of Zoo's and Aquaria)

  • Wow! I didn't know the baby was so young when I saw it back in April. It was very cute, sleeping in its mother's arms, I took a photo.
