The Final Reality Benchmark utilising DirectX 5 and created by Remedy and VNU Business Labs in 1997. The video and audio is slightly out of sync in places due to the audio and video streams being recorded independently and merged back to create the video.
Video created using Fraps, Audacity and VirtualDubMod

  • Uhh yea, what's the story with Max Payne and this demo?

  • @edwlee78 Remedy developed both this benchmark and Max Payne.

  • where can you download tis now

  • Not sure. If I have the time I'll see if I can find the file and post it. It's only about 10MB or less.

  • Beautiful stuff indeed, thanks for sharing. But why the low frame rate? I know Fraps puts some load on the system and thus decreases performance but I recentely tried this my good ol' Voodoo Banshee-driven Pentium Pro bucket clocked at 200 Mhz and... I gotta say it did a fair amount better than this :P

  • The version of Fraps I used only allowed uncompressed video capture, and unfortunately my HD isn't fast enough to capture the benchmark running at full speed.

  • Amazing. Thanks for the memories.

I remember my first time when it switched to texture+environment mapping my jaw hit the floor.

  • I think todays minesweeper has higher system requirements than this benchmark.

  • @EJ205T They announced it in 1997 and released it in 2001.

  • Wow!! The first benchmark i ever used!! Tested my voodoo2 12MB for countless times!!! Always loved the music!!!

  • Did anyone else notice that the metallic objects in the dome in the city scene are actually the raw polygonal tree models from the Second Reality Demo?

  • @budojon If i find the benchmark i will post a video in high quality.

  • I still have this benchmark if anyone needs it just send me a message over youtube and i will see about getting a copy to you, regards Richard p.s i like the bit with the robots in the bsp map render.
