damn how did the master tracks find their way to youtube
-
@schweppes1010 That mistake's there because when they were recording the album the band decided they would keep any mistakes they made so it was more organic. It came out however it came out and that's what the album would sound like.

@MrMilfHunter @AutomaticRhythmUnit He uses a Music Man Stingray 5 only for "Funky Monks" and "The Righteous & the Wicked" on this album (:
-
@MrMilfHunter no it's a Music Man Sting Ray bass :)

@schweppes1010 It seems to be a bit out of rhythm here and there throughout the song, but it's the dynamics between Chad and Flea that makes it sound tight. And while it's not digitally corrected with Pro Tools, like pretty much every commercially notable recording nowadays, it adds the funky, original kind of feel to it. If you listen to the early funk stuff made in the 60's closely, you can notice the 'mistakes' that make it sound – well, what it sounds like!

:14 Flea actually falls outta rhythm, rushing the F to G. Either that, or noticed he was falling behind the beat and speed up to compensate. Surprised it made it on the final track, its pretty noticable. Not to say that Flea isnt a first class bassist, but even the masters screw stuff up.

sounds so sloppy

spl100 is right, he's not slapping any of this bass line, he pushes his finger into the string hard enough to get a slappy sound
