The private possession of exotic big cats in the USA is a huge problem. Only 18 states ban the ownership of big cats from bobcats to tigers, these cats are often kept in substandard conditions, exploited and live miserable lives.

Watch this video and find out if it's legal to privately own a big cat in YOUR state.

  • I plan on owning a Serval when I'm older, i'm moving to Rhode Island, getting a sizable house with a large backyard for a 10x10 pen which i WILL tend to, and make as comfortable for my baby as possible, he or she will also live inside. I love what you guys do, rescuing animals in need is just simply amazing, but not all private owners are bad, allot of people say they are better for the species. so while I love what you are doing the smaller sub species (some) can be kept as loving happy pets.

  • @PsychicXWolf Do you think a house and a 10ft x 10ft cage is suitable for a wild animal that would usually roam hundreds of square miles in the wild? I understand that many private owners do not have bad intentions but this doesn't make owning these animals right, they deserve much better. Not to mention that they spray and are dangerous and unpredictable, plus what happens to the cat if you are unable to care for it anymore?

  • @nan062 We don't believe people have the right to cage wild animals for their enjoyment, we have to draw the line somewhere and tigers and lions being kept in backyards is simply ridiculous and extremely dangerous. There are not enough wildlife officers to enforce laws and make regular inspections of all the facilities that own/breed/sell these animals and probably never will be. This problem must stop and not continue as it is...

  • @Djakoby2095 Hi, thanks for your support and for watching our videos! The bottom line is that these wild animals do not belong in backyards and living rooms, they can never be tamed, they will always be wild, they escape enclosures can attack people and sometimes people lose their lives. These animals roam hundreds of square miles in the wild confining them to backyard cages is abuse in itself in our eyes. Not to mention all the cats that are abandoned each year by their owners.

  • WHOOOOOOO!!!! Yay go California for banning big cats!!!!!!!! I live there by the way XD I'm happy for that cause even though people find a way around laws, I would seriously be freaked out if one of my neighbors had an big cat as a pet I would also report them too! I would probably yell at them too for condemning another WILD animal to a life in a cage when they would be much happier and free in the wild.

  • @philliesphreak10 These cats roam hundreds of square miles in the wild so no matter what you do or how much you can provide for them they shouldn't be privately owned. Because if one person can, the next person wants to as well, plus there will never be enough money or manpower to enforce regulations. Not to mention the number of escapes and attacks by privately owned "pet" big cats....

  • @BigCatRescue I completely understand where you guys are coming from: I hear ridiculous stories about fully grown lions or tigers living in someone's tiny apartment, and I feel awful for those poor animals. But what if an exotic cat is actually happy living with it's owner? I'm talking a responsible owner, who knows these animals, and sacrifices the majority of the his/her time every single day to make sure that it stays happy and healthy.

  • @CaptainNensho IQ of a peanut...

  • @Djakoby2095 Because they're wild animals, no matter if they're raised as a cub. I don't understand why you want to lock up an animal that normally needs a LOT of space roaming around. How selfish can you be?

  • @BigCatRescue Well said. You wonder when people start to learn. But also when in all the states of the USA keeping wild animals will be forbidden.

  • @PsychicXWolf A serval is a wild animal and doesn't belong in a cage. No matter if you take care of it or not. They can't be kept as loving pets simply because they aren't. And for that one you happen to take care of many are being abused, mistreated, killed, starved, etc.

  • Its so sad that people think its acceptable to cage these beautiful animals. They need space and freedom not selfish owners putting them in a cage. Well done Big Cat Rescue for the work you do :-)

  • @TheSammy15z WTF?

  • Does Legal means can have that tiger or cannot? :O

I really wish to have 1
