405 line television on a 1953 set that spent most of its life in Horsham tuned to channel 1 Band 1.
Brought back to life yesterday after retiring in 1979.

  • This is the first Bush television set that does not have a round face tube. The RF chassis has stacks of gain so I will be using this set to watch pictures from the new station at Alexandra Palace, when it opens up(45 Mc/s). I might find a new tube at some point as the digital camera is very flattering to it !!

  • Interesting. What are you using to generate a 405-line signal?

  • Of course, I should have mentioned the excellent Aurora convertor from Darryl in America. They cost about 100GBP and take 625 input that I feed from a freeview box(output on any channel in BI or BIII). When the convertor detects no signal it switches over to test card C (built into memory).

I cannot speak too highly of it.

    Regards

  • I'd always be worried of getting radiation off them old TV's. Cats used to get tumours because they would sleep under their stands.

  • Crumbs I remember when the vertical hold used to go on our telly. Drove us crackers.

I remember the dot. We used to watch the dot until it disappeared. Sad or what! Well the transmissions weren't on for that long and we had to get our moneys worth out of the licence fee.

  • Fantastic !! 5*

  • My TV is practically new compared to this one/

BTW, my main TV was manufactured in 1959.

  • would you try connecting to the television?

  • Whos pushing what lol? I dont see any pushing?

besides its his tv he can do as he wishes. Anyway the manufacturer wont put features on a product that can damage it.

  • not for long if he keeps cranking up the brightness.

  • The crt is still in good condition. Congratulations!
