Some of the CSBS Grade 6 RAD students practising the "1st Ports de Bras" from the Classical section. We recorded a few exercises in class as part of their personal study. They needed to improve their understanding of relaxation, sense of performance and being able to reflect the music.

As a teaching aid, it was very useful, especially as we do not have a mirrored studio.

Two of these students are preparing to sit the examination in 2 months time.

  • Lines....the lines. You guys should really look at getting some mirrors. You need to be able to see your lines...I think that would help a lot. Stretch everything...think : long! Long stretched arms, long stretched feet and legs, lift and turn out. Sternum (sp?) should always be lifted. I see a lot of potential here...so keep working at it!

  • Thanks for your comments, we use Coucil halls, hence no mirrors, which are not always a good thing. These students are aged 12-14 so I think they are doing ok for just a few months into grade 6

  • overall this is very good but you need to know the timing of each step better. you ended up just waiting there for too long on some bits, also, you need to stop looking like your stroking your leg in some bits. your not ment to do that. your ment to just raise your arm. it might feel pretty doing it but it defo doesnt look it. Apart from that, it was really good :) well done

  • Thanks for your comment... the video was used to help with musicality and to look at the 'odd' things that happen (the studio doesn't have mirrors). No more leg-stroking lol !

    Glad you liked it :)

  • Dont rush, you have plenty of music to spare, make your movements longer and fill all the music

  • oh i did this one for my exam! except we did it in partners, opposite eachother. the dancers are good, just work on the timing!! the music is slow, so stretch out the counts more, don't move too fast into the next step.

  • The hall I use for ballet doesn't have mirrors either. It's quite annoying. Some of the girls in this video seem a little stiff and the ending all seems to go quite fast. It was nice seeing other dancers perform it though. It's a lovely exercise. :)

  • @dancesingkitty94 Lol, u mean horrible technique? But at least she did put in effort.

  • the girl on the left side in the light blue dress is dancing HORRIBLE, she's got a HORRIBLE technology!!!!! (sorry for my english)

  • i think there are too many people dancing at the same time coz there's obviously not enough space for each person to run and all but, even if you had small space to run, look more uplifted and run lightly to give that light and elegant look, not slouching and running like a hunchback (?) :) well done though.

  • anyone know if this would be similar to BBO grade 6? or what would be?

  • girl in the white dress watch your 5th arm possition all of you watch your second. Im loving expressions though very pretty! remember to point toes in everything not just certain things cause you will definitly lose points even when running try an exercise outside on a big yard with your feet pointing as your run.other than that keep your expressions smile a lot and you'll all be fine! ^_^

  • just taken this exam :) it seems really hard when you first learn it, but you need to think abouth the music.. you've got the steps but not the timing. Feel the music! It sounds really naff but it works.. it's all about flowing with the music :D

  • i think they are going to fast i need to be sloly
