"To France" - written by Rev. Jeff Mosier
Phish teased this previously unidentified instrumental (w/Rev. Mosier guesting) on 11/16/94 and played in full on 11/17/94 and through some searching was recently (July 2010) discovered to have been played by ARU from this video. Rev. Jeff Mosier was contacted to see if he could shed any light regarding this song and had this to say:
"The tune is called "To France". I wrote it in 1988-89 for The Aquarium Rescue Unit.
Story..One of my first and best girlfriends, had moved just moved to France and I wrote it on my front porch swing, in a sadness stooper, on the day she left. The funny singing in the song was an ARU addition that Phish evidently loved. (Sipe and Oteil started it I recall) The humor of that singing, as is always the case with, became a great and healing medicine for me. It was never recorded, but I plan on putting it on a rock banjo album to be released this fall. To this day ARU nor Phish has any idea what the song was about or meant, which to me is great... and of course you can quote me on this." - Jeff Mosier, July 13, 2010 at 11:59am
