Continuation of Part 1...
Safe Arms for Newborns is created
Debi began the Safe Arms for Newborns program when she contacted Sen. Jim Brulte and asked him to write legislation that would decriminalize 'safe' abandonment. Safe Arms for Newborns (SB 1368) was created to honor all babies who have lost their lives to newborn abandonment. The Garden of Angels works passionately to prevent the tragedy of newborn abandonment through our educational and outreach programs.
California law SB 1368 allows the parent of a newborn infant - within 3 days - to legally surrender their baby, anonymously and without fear of prosecution to any employee at any hospital emergency room or other designated 'Safe Haven' in California.
In addition, SB 1368 allows for a two-week "cooling off" period, allowing the parent the opportunity to reconsider the decision, and work to reclaim their child. Since this law took effect January 1st 2001, 153 babies have been safely surrendered (as of June 2006 ).
The Garden of Angels and our Safe Arms for Newborns program is committed to the prevention of newborn abandonment.
Please give your baby a chance to live. A chance to grow. A chance to smile. The Safe Haven Law is created for the protection of those with out a voice.
Please if you know someone who is about to throw away their baby : Remember you are throwing away someone who in return can save you. Would you like to be thrown away? Help them to help their baby. Give a voice back to a child.
wonderful video! when my mom was in high school a girl hid the fact she was pregnant and during a school dance the girl and her friend went into the restroom and had the baby! Than she threw her in the dumpster! When my mom was leaving she walked passed the dumpster and herd crying! My mom ran to the dumpster and took the beautiful baby girl out! She rushed to the hospital found and told them she found the baby in the dumpster! They tested the baby to see who the mom was and they found out!
