@EBanonymous I'm sorry you see it that way. If you want to see a minsrel show, watch "a day at the races" by the Marx brothers. It was embraced by the black community at the time because the black folks won in the end.
Anyway, we've hijacked this girl's comments enough. Enjoy your day and keep an open mind. Like Freud said-"sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".
And this young lady can sing! Check out her other works.

Each and every one of those works is full of blatant example of racism, and it's because Disney used Swastikas in "The Wayward Canary" & did so much openly racist stuff, one has to be cautious with the "Jungle Book". He also had a book "Mickey and the Boy Thursday" about a "savage" from Africa (google it u can read it free) on similar themes.
Really, "I wanna be like you" scene's dancing alone is Minstrel; Disney & some of his animaotors were pretty extreme. "classics" not for me.

I don't know y Prima did it
Look into Rudyard Kipling, the White Man's Burden & his apolegitics for British colonialism in of all places the very same country (Nobel Prize winner too).
Disney's earlier work "Alice in the Jungle" & a whole lot of Mickey stuff was about visinting "savages" in jungles, Africa ("trader Mickey" - instruments not people...); "The Chain Gan" & "Mellerdrammer" w/ minstrel songs & blackface - "Jungle Book" uses minstrel dancing & "Dumbo" has "Jim Crow"

@EBanonymous I think you have to look at the context. The characters are, after all, animals. The Orangatang is a "Cousin" of man who would like to...er...upgrade. I honestly don't think they were poking fun at primates or a Class of people. I think it was just good fun. And Louie Prima nor Phil harris needed the money. In fact, they were looking at it as a lark. Harris went on to do many more cartoons (The Aristocats,et al) for disney and others. Any way ,This girl can sing!!!!
-
Well I don't know if Prima or the other 2 were racists, and it really doesn't matter. The point is they participated in making a film that racist references to monkeys, "be a man" & the typical "jungle" & "uncivilised" people Kipling & Disney always accused them of - Colonial argument. India - no surprise there. Musicians were probably looking for buck.
You're right. Disney was a racist & he promoted these things in many films. "I wanna be like u" yeah "a man". Pretty blatant
-
@EBanonymous I assure you mr.Prima was no racist. Nor was Mr.Harris Or Mr. Cabot. In fact, the only racist involved with this film was Mr Disney himself. He hated jews and blacks.
Your one few people on youtube who can sing. Love jazz and this song.
