  • I have my garden in the front and in the back yard. Calgary, alberta canada. (its hard but so enjoyable.) I have not been able to get the pumkins to produce but I still try every year. One of these summers I will have pumkin. since I put in my raised beds in the front of the house I was taxed higher. the city calls it "home improvents." my house tax went up 200.00 for the year. be careful for that poplar tree. ours started to lean towards the house and the roots spread out.it caused problems.

  • @crewlla HI there, yes our taxes went up too, maybe about 30% after we put our front garden in but they never told us that it was because of the yard improvements.. weird.. so we want to grow our own veggies and we get taxed for it.. Thanks for the advice about the poplar trees, they make me a bit nervous but a local arbourist told us that they were okay.. we'll see!

  • I love this video! I live in Ottawa and I want to grow a food forest starting this Spring (2011). You are totally inspirational and I've watched both of these videos several times. I would love to see a series on harvesting/canning the bounty of your food forest! Thank you!

  • @nathaliepoulin Hi, Thanks for the comments 7 months ago - just a bit slow to reply hey? I've just had a baby about then and that's my excuse.. I'm actually making a video (for sale) on Cold Climate Permaculture, which may well include a section on food processing since I think its an intrinsic skill to gardening this far north. Thanks for the comments..

  • Very nice garden! What Canadian climatic zone are you in?

  • @wenrolland Hi there, sorry its taken me so long to respond.. we are in 2b or 3a.. bit of both.. probably more like 3a. cheers Barb

  • Great job!! and the garden is beutiful!

  • @crewlla I'm in London Ontario CA. I have NEVER hear of someone getting TAXED like that before that is outrageous. I would not stand for that.

  • Wow! What a beautiful front yard/garden! I love it!

  • Also, which saw mill were you getting off cuts from? I didn't know there was a mill near Olds.

  • You must be a bit outside of Olds? I don't remember seeing a garden like that.

  • This is appalling with regard to the higher taxes. With changes transpiring, I doubt that governments/governmental agencies will be able to impose such penalties(?) for much longer. Most enjoyable to view - yet another inspiring example of food-growing and other aspects of permaculture. Thank you!

  • @erinnordin Thanks! Good to hear its all happening in SK. Where are you? I'm coming to Sask this fall, heading to the south, near Bengough... Cheers barb
