As a Post-Impressionist painter, Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) is among the important artists who paved the way to the development of modern art. Many artists and critics believe that modern movements in painting, such as Cubism and Abstraction, appeared mainly because of Cézanne's search for the "underlying structure of the composition". Studying Cézanne's works, Pablo Picasso called Cézanne his "one and only master". We will talk about Cézanne's life and works, his relationship with the Impressionists, and the formal elements in his paintings this week.
