  • Feb 25, Happy Birthday HARTZELL STRATHDEAN "Tiny" PARHAM!

  • You must be very knowledgeable about early jazz music to know today is Tiny Parkam's birthday. His band is not that well known and I am surprised when anyone else even has heard any of his recordings besides me.

  • The photo at 1:20 , is this the 1927 Henderson Orchestra fronted by Don Redman? I never see this photo before, but it reminds me of the well known 1927 Henderson Orchestra photo... ?

  • Yes, I think that is the Henderson band. Another collector sent me scan of this picture years ago. Also I consider Washboard Wiggles by Tiny Parham to one of the great jazz recordings of the 1920's.

  • HI Jazzgirl,

We Celebrate Tiny's birthday every year in Ann Arbor Mich. A ten piece group: called the Phil Ogilvie Rhythm Kings or "PORK" play authentic transcriptions of 1920's music. I have transcribed about 12 Parham titles including Washboard Wiggles. (In fact I bought a Washboard specifically for this piece) I even try to notate the Parham piano solos which are wacked.

    God Love Ya!!!. .

  • Awesome! :D
