Since the cystic fibrosis gene was discovered in 1989, scientists have been focused on finding a way to fix the underlying genetic cause of CF. Exploring ways to do this was a key topic throughout the 23rd annual North American CF Conference. Dr. Eric Sorscher discusses how the abnormal CF gene leads to a faulty protein known as CFTR. When CFTR does not function properly, it causes mucus to build up in the lungs and other organs of the body.
