This is my homemade bell instrument called "The Chronicle". The bells themselves are a set of mini carillon bells specially designed for a Theater in Berkeley, Ca, circa 1910. The bells were originally mounted on a large 10ft frame and were electronically triggered by a keyboard which relayed a signal to strike the bell with a wooden dowel. I have remounted the bells on a drum rack so that I can play a melody on the bells while simultaneously keeping a beat with the kick and snare. I'm still figuring out how to play this thing so any feedback is welcome.

  • dude how did you make this instrument??? materials, cutting techniques, pitches??? I wanna make something similar for a science competition. Your help would be much appreciated

  • @wbasketEbay Hey, I didn't make the bells themselves, they were designed for a theater in Berkeley around 1900. All I did was fasten the bells to a Pearl drum rack using industrial velcro. The bells are made of brass but I bet you could make something similiar using PVC or wood. HIt me back with a link to your video if you decide to make it.
