is it much different if you do a 32 spoke wheel, or even 28 spoke?
-
Namarkoon said not to lube the nipples because they become loose over time, so should i not lube them for my bmx bike since the wheel will be taking a lot of impact?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

at around the 1:00 mark, how did you miss the joke opportunity for the "wipe the lube off the rim" comment. I had to go back and watch as I thought maybe I missed the caption. Nice work guys....

Lubing spoke nipples... eeerrr...
wouldn't recommend doing that for DH bikes and touring bikes that are destined to carry heavy loads. Spokes keep coming loose constantly.
We built loads of wheels for London Ambulance fleet - they carry something like.. I dunno.. probably 30 or more kilos on their racks. Some colleague had lubed nipples on some wheels and, weeeelll, after first couple of weeks spokes on those wheels were totally, totally loose. Had to relace them anew.
But cool vids. Thumbs up!!

what kind of lube are you using when you are lubing the nipples?
AirToui 3 years ago
Just your average run of the mill bike or chain lube, like tri flow, or white lightning, just something to keep the nipples from freezing up on the spokes and to make it a little easier to turn the nipples when initially truing.
