@RobinPratt Not her dog. She borrowed Buttons, did take him home and taught him to dance. See my other post here.

Eleanor auditioned several dogs for the part, without success. Finally an MGM prop man brought in his young daughter's dog, Buttons. Eleanor took Buttons home and spent several months training him to dance. He went on to appear in other films, including The Emperor Waltz, with Bing Crosby.

She was a real workhorse and excellent technician. Plus she exuded Personality with a capital "P" and though she was a very serious artist there was always a sense she wasn't taking herself or her movies seriously and was enjoying every moment of what she was doing. She was a tremendous office draw and star but for some reason not remembered as much as Ginger Rogers. They were two entirely different types at a time when every star was unique.
