This series of TextMovies is based on the English translation of the Daoist classic, Daodejing. The primary text used is the James Legge translation available on the sacred-texts.com CD. Sufficient support is also taken from Lin Yutang translation that appeared in "The Wisdom of China", a compilation edited by Lin Yutang and published by Michael Joseph Ltd.
Daodejing is often called, "The Wisest Book Ever Written".
Wikipedia introduces Daodejing thus...
The Tao Te Ching or Dao De Jing (道德经), whose authorship has been attributed to Laozi (老子), is a Chinese classic text. Its name comes from the opening words of its two sections: 道 dào "way," Chapter 1, and 德 dé "virtue," Chapter 38, plus 經 jīng "classic." According to tradition, it was written around the 6th century BC by the sage Laozi (or Lao Tzu, "Old Master"). The text's true authorship and date of composition or compilation are still debated.
The Tao Te Ching is fundamental to the Philosophical Taoism (Dàojiā 道家) and strongly influenced other schools, such as Legalism and Neo-Confucianism. This ancient book is also central in Chinese religion, not only for Religious Taoism (Dàojiào 道教) but Chinese Buddhism, which when first introduced into China was largely interpreted through the use of Taoist words and concepts.
The title Tao Te Ching is an honorific given by posterity, other titles include the amalgam Lǎozǐ Dàodé Jīng (老子道德經), the honorific Daode Zhen Jing (道德真經 "True Classic of the Way and the Power"), and the Wuqian wen (五千文 "Five thousand character").
Wikipedia introduces Laozi as...
Laozi (Chinese: 老子; pinyin: Lǎozǐ; Wade--Giles: Laosi; also Lao Tse, Lao Tu, Lao-Tzu, Lao-Tsu, Laotze, Lao Zi, Laocius, and other variations) was a mystic philosopher of ancient China, and is a central figure in Taoism (also spelled "Daoism"). Laozi literally means "old master", and is generally considered honorific. Laozi is revered as a deity in most religious forms of Taoism. Taishang Laojun is title for Laozi in the Taoist religion, which refers to him as "One of the Three Pure Ones".

Some passages in the series (from still other translations):
The Tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.
When people see some things as beautiful,
other things become ugly.
When people see some things as good,
other things become bad.
Therefore the Master
acts without doing anything
and teaches without saying anything.
The Tao is like a well:
used but never used up.
It is like the eternal void:
filled with infinite possibilities.
In dwelling, live close to the ground.
In thinking, keep to the simple.
In conflict, be fair and generous.
In governing, don't try to control.
In work, do what you enjoy.
In family life, be completely present.
When you are content to be simply yourself
and don't compare or compete,
everybody will respect you.
Knowing others is wisdom;
Knowing the self is enlightenment.
Mastering others requires force;
Mastering the self requires strength;
He who knows he has enough is rich.
Perseverance is a sign of will power.
He who stays where he is endures.
To die but not to perish is to be eternally present.
Empty your mind of all thoughts.
Let your heart be at peace.
Watch the turmoil of beings,
but contemplate their return.
The Master doesn't talk, he acts.
When his work is done,
the people say, "Amazing:
we did it, all by ourselves!"
