Also I wasn't saying that Alex Smith wasn't given a chance or that he was the sole reason why they were winning, but he is a big part of it. The qb position is given the credit when the team does well, and given the credit when the team does bad for a reason. It is the most important position. Peyton Manning and the Colts show that. Is Alex Smith a top 5 qb? No. His team does help him out a lot, but no shitty qb could lead his team the way Smith has this season.
@Krans24 We are talking about different colt's. I was talking about Colt McCoy, he was drafted 3rd round, you were talking about Colt Brennan. My bad, I guess I got you confused with someone else who was talking about Colt McCoy.
But Brennan is like a Texas Tech quarterback, they can do good in college, but are garage in the NFL. TTU qb's should never be drafted in my opinion, that school is so garbage. Also many qb's do good in pre-season. That means nothing.
@724Broncofan Also he was not drafted 3rd round, he was drafted 6th round, 6th round players are much more expendable to teams.
True you can't predict the future, but 49ers are winning for other reasons than Smith, plus Smith being the #1 overall pick had basically been given as much a chance as anyone. 49ers are winning under an elite defense, a solid oline and run game.
@724Broncofan I think you need to re-read my comment. First off I said Colt "never got a real shot" in the NFL not that he didn't go, he threw for 68% in the preseason and a QB rating of 109.9 he could make it in the pros he just never got a fair shake.
My point with Gabbert was draft position affects how much of a shot you get, and it's sad that I think Colt is a better QB but his sugar bowl performance dropped him a ton, if he came out a year earlier he probably gets drafted top three rounds
Look where Tebow is and look where Brennans at haha

He went out of his way to tear up Tebow. This guy was ahead of his time. Tebow put 5 or 6 touchdowns on Hawaii if I do recall.

June was half right here, though I would have gladly taken a late round flier on Colt a few years ago. ;)
