I was sitting on the bench, staring at my hands, silently crying. Selena found me soon enough, sat beside me & wrapped her arms around me in a tight hug.

"What are you doing here?" I sniffed.
"I'm sorry," she said.
"For what?" I spitted back at her but only feeling guilty for the bitterness.
"For everything, " she said but it sounded more of a question than a statement to me.
"No!" I stood up, "You don't even know what you're apologizing for Selena! You can't just do that!"
She still sat there with apologetic eyes, "I know what's been going on, Demi! You're feeling bad."
I looked at her, dead in the eye,"For what is that Selena?"
She looked down then. I knew it. She had NO idea.
"I knew it," I said bitterly, "You have no idea of anything going on since you & Nick became a thing!"
"Demi, that's not true," she said.
"Did you know that Taylor Lautner asked Taylor Swift out?"
"Oh my gosh, no way!" Her eyes lit up like a cartoon character.
"You see what I mean? You're in your own world, Sel. A world where only Nick exists," I said, gently this time, feeling bad of my bitter remarks.
"I'm sorry," she said, looking down.
"That's one thing you can apologize for," I said, mumbling to myself.
"Tell me what I did wrong," she said.
"Oh, I don't know. Does the constant attention to Nick something ring a bell?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, her throat feeling a little tight.
"Take a look at it, Sel! When we're together, you talk about Nick 24/7. When it's the three of us, you ONLY talk to Nick, not a single word at me. You don't text me anymore. You don't even call. It's like I'm invisible!" My voice cracked at the last word, more tears escaping my eyes, staining my cheeks.
"Demi..." she said, not really looking at me but at something or someone behind me.
"I'm sorry, Sel. But I just can't believe it," I looked at her distracted eyes.
She couldn't say anything. She just sighed.
"And you know what kills the most?" I really didn't wait for an answer. I simply continued, "I promised Nick that I'll help him get you to be his. In return, he had to promise me something. He had to promise not to forget me when you two are boyfriend/girlfriend."
"Demi...I...," she repeated but didn't say anything after that.
"So there I was at the cafeteria, sitting at the same damn table with you & Nick, being ignored as usual & then it hit me," I said, getting a little more angry, "Where the hell did that promise go?"
"I didn't mean to make you feel that way, Dems."
"I know you didn't... but... I don't know. Maybe I should just leave. Like, leave you two alone. Don't worry, I'll still be your friend but I'll keep my distance. Stay away at that."
"No, Demi! You can't do that. You're my best friend! Nick's best friend!"
I sighed. I couldn't say any more. I've said what I have to say. Selena then stood up when I was looking down at the ground. I didn't expect her to do anything, say anything at most. But she hugged me tightly, whispering, "I'm really sorry, Dems." Soon after, I found myself hugging her back. I didn't think of the effect of what I was doing - forgiving her. Was things going to go back to normal after this? If it was, I was going to stick to my word and stay away, simple as that.

I choked on the words but I managed to get them out, "I forgive you, Sel. It's alright."
"Really, Dems?" She said, pulling away from the hug just to see me nod my head yes, "You're the best!" She hugged me again. I smiled then & hugged her back.
-----
"Hey, Dems, can I ask you something? Just answer it honestly," She said as we were walking back to the table where Nick sat alone.
"Yeah, sure. What is it?"
"What do you want me & Nick to do so that you won't feel left out or forgotten?"
"Oh, you know. The simple things. Talk to me from time to time, call me, or simply text me. Nothing big."
"Ok," she nodded. We were almost at the table. "Do you want me to talk to Nick about his promise?"
I didn't say anything. I simply looked at the ground.
"I get it. I'll talk to him."
"I didn't say anything!"
"Don't worry," she held my hand, "I'm not talking to him 'cause you told me to but becuase I want to."

After all of that... Everything was alright. They both talked to me at times, they called, texted me and stuff like that. Although I can't still escape the fact it's not like things used to be before they were something. But things now are better than before I talked to her. I don't regret anything & now, we're all happy.
