5th April 2010 10:44 EST WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff.

Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded.

The military did not reveal how the Reuters staff were killed, and stated that they did not know how the children were injured.

After demands by Reuters, the incident was investigated and the U.S. military concluded that the actions of the soldiers were in accordance with the law of armed conflict and its own "Rules of Engagement".

Consequently, WikiLeaks has released the classified Rules of Engagement for 2006, 2007 and 2008, revealing these rules before, during, and after the killings.

WikiLeaks has released both the original 38 minutes video and a shorter version with an initial analysis. Subtitles have been added to both versions from the radio transmissions.

WikiLeaks obtained this video as well as supporting documents from a number of military whistleblowers. WikiLeaks goes to great lengths to verify the authenticity of the information it receives. We have analyzed the information about this incident from a variety of source material. We have spoken to witnesses and journalists directly involved in the incident.

WikiLeaks wants to ensure that all the leaked information it receives gets the attention it deserves. In this particular case, some of the people killed were journalists that were simply doing their jobs: putting their lives at risk in order to report on war. Iraq is a very dangerous place for journalists: from 2003- 2009, 139 journalists were killed while doing their work.

  • the americans fabricated lies they decieved the world and waged a war against iraq for no reason than their own interests and gains. their illigal unjustified war and ocupation resulted in thousands and thousands of dead civilians and the suffering of all iraqi people. they can never hide the truth and i am sure we will hear more of that truth no matter how secretive they can try to be .

  • Bush, Cheny and Rumsfield started this hell. Never forget that.

  • One was ready to fire a RPG others were carrying AK47's. If you follow them to take photos then tough shit. Fucking cowards always hide around civilians, this kind of reporting makes me. This is the problem we have with 24hr news channels they have to spin shit on everthing to keep you watching

Its a war zone, if you involve yourself in that war then you will shot at

  • every single person will be judged on the day of judgement day ... this is a promise from god....

  • That's sad

  • you should add tony blair! they will hopefully find their names on the list of the worst mass murderers in mankind's history. all along with hitler, stalin and pol pot. they fabricated lies about womd and did not have the guts to stop the war machine as they found out there are none. ah well, then we bring demoncracy..we shove it donw your throat you uncivilised people! take our democracy or die!!! thats the spirit of the United States of ARMS!

  • I really really really dis-like the american government...

  • Their gloating was aimed at the death of what they believed to be insurgents. This kind of reporting is deceiving and lacking the full facts.

  • Reuters journalists and their people will roaming around in a very dangerous area, often inhabited by insurgents etc. The Apache crew (mistakenly) identify the people on the street to be dangerous, holding weapons and hostile to aircraft - so they fire. Taking away the mistake made by the US military and its guilt in not accepting facts, I don't see how blame can be issued to the Apache personnel. They were doing their job - neither did I see any gloating towards the death of innocent civilians.

  • @tizintishka Ok calm down there when you say "americans" you make it sound like were all over here blood thirsty and going crazy to kill every man, woman, and child in the middle east. That is false not all americans like this war, just like not all people in the middle east are so crazy about god that they would strap a bomb to them selfs. now fuck you have a nice day:)

  • @executiveorder1080 You can mistake the first guys for "terrorists", but you can not make any mistakes about the second kill and the kids.

Maybe they did it for revenge, i don't know. I dont like the ragheads either.

All i'm saying is that this was not a fight .

So much money for the heli's , the weapons and for training of those boys, and then this.

Is kind of embarassing for US Army and for any prof. soldier.

Only mercenaries or psycho rookies do this kind of things in cold blood.

  • @ranged8ball you can't judege.... You don't know what these guys go through on day to day basis
