This is a lyric from a good friend, Dr. B, about a government takeover of healthcare. It was inspired by the stories coming from the Oregon state system that denied advanced treatment to cancer patients, but rather callously reminded them that a full range of palliative care was available, including physician-assisted suicide.

Many thanks to a half million viewers of my initial effort "One Single Payer System" and especially the scores of you who subscribed to my videos. I figured I had to come up with something to follow up lest I disappoint.

And apologies to my wife and children who are REALLY sick of hearing this tune.

Produced with a Yamaha S90, Mac GarageBand and iMovie HD.

AINT GONNA TREAT YOUR HEART NO LONGER

Long ago you were productive
And you held a steady job
Now you've gotten old and feeble
And you're looking like a slob
Once you paid us lots of taxes
And were very cheap to treat
Now the bills are piling up
And there's a budget we must meet

Refrain
Ain't gonna treat your heart no longer
Ain't gonna treat your back no more
Costs too much to buy you braces
Costs too much for Lipitor
Costs too much for your depression
And we're tired of your complaints
Ain't gonna treat your heart no longer
Better get ready to meet the saints

Now your joints are getting creaky
And your liver's getting old
Your carotids are stenosing
And your thyroid needs controlled
It's too bad that you have cancer
And you suffer chronic pain
But we can't afford to treat you
So you're circling the drain

Refrain

While the citizens were sleeping
Congress came and took control
Now your healthcare's being run by
Bureaucrats without a soul
We won't pay for your dialysis
Won't pay to fix your eyes
But because we're kind and caring
We will pay to euthanize

Refrain

  • Credit where credit is due... The original tune to this is "This Ole House" by Stuart Hamblen.

More info is available at HamblenMusic "dot" com

(I haven't figured out yet how to actually put a web address in this comment area, so substitute the "dot" for a ".")

  • @wclindsay

That it is. The most popular version was done by Rosemary Clooney in 1954. This lyric was written for another physician for our medical society show last year.

  • New video

    "See You in November"

  • That was hilarious and so true!!!!

  • Nice Job! According to some of the responses, the Libs are watching as well.

  • Razzr,

You care enough to keep coming back.

Although, I never have figured out precisely why Canadians care one way or the other about what we do with healthcare in the States.

I know, why don't you make your own video singing about the glories of the Canadian Health System. That oughta garner a couple of dozen views.

You're also backsliding on those apostrophes. C'mon, man, you can do it.

  • i really dont care dude. stop wasting your time, my comment was just my opinion. it is also my opinion that you have no life. and i love you.

  • In case you missed it:

Did you care to make a substantive comment on my reply? That's why we're here after all.

  • If you read more posts, you would see I don't nitpick that stuff in most cases. I think the only other time was a commenter who criticized someone else's spelling or grammar in a post shot through with errors, so I made sure to point out his a few times.

Good job on the apostrophe in your last post. Keep up the good work!

Oh, and did you care to make a substantive comment on my reply? That's why we're here after all.
