Lil Wayne worked his ass off in the 90s to catch a break as a solo artist. Baby and Slim pushed Lil Wayne harder than probably Lil Wayne had ever been pushed in his career up to that point. From 1997-1999 Lil Wayne had made more cameos on more Cash Money albums than anybody else on the entire label. I might not always agree with what Lil Wayne says nowdays in his raps or how he presents himself, but nobody can deny that he hasn't worked hard for everything he's gotten.
