Lars Rudolph and Peter Fitz take the long walk in Béla Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies.
The original footage is actually a little over a minute and a half but it seems longer. My new version is as long as the original seems thereby becoming my interpretation of the brief scene.
György Eszter (played by Fitz) represents spirit, art, beauty. János Valuska (played by Rudolph) is undecided about the choice between natural order and man-made order. He is in awe of beauty and respects his uncles theories (Werckmeister Harmony, a disruption of the natural order to broaden the extension of music.) and position but sees him controlled by his aunt and fear of her dictatorship. In this scene he walks with his uncle on an errand for his aunt to choose the side of man by calling in the army.
brilliance.
