This is from my 3rd book of "Thought Crimes" for solo cello. I wrote nearly all of the music in this book while living in Ithaca. This particular piece, was inspired at least in part by Steven Stucky's 2nd concerto for orchestra. In this piece he spells out the names of various people, and places musically, much like BACH, or DSCH. I had always wanted to do the same with my own name but could never figure out how to musically 'spell' it. Eventually, I did figure it out by using all sorts of different solfege systems that can mostly be found in the Harvard Music Dictionary. So this is a piece based on the letters of my name. By some strange coincidence the letters that come out of this also happened to form a 12-tone row. I though this was quite lucky, or perhaps an act of fate, so the piece is also completely serialized, though it sounds far less dissonant than the other three pieces in this book, which are not serialized.
Very nice. This is serialism I can get into
