The Kampung Buah Pala ex-gratia compensation of a house worth approximately RM500, 000 is like durian runtuh to 10 families. Thomas Chan, director of Nusmetro Ventures Sdn Bhd who is the developer of the project The Oasis revealed that the house will be given to 10 families whom had left Kampung Buah Pala much earlier. These 10 houses were demolished a long time ago.
Meanwhile, only five of the twenty four house owners currently living in Kampung Buah Pala took the offer of the double-storey house with a built-up area of 1,400 sq ft. The balance of nineteen house owners have everything to lose. Demolition is imminent. Compensation offered has been closed. What will happen to them? Nusmetro Thomas Chan has stated so clearly that they are squatters.
Although several reports had been lodged with the police, the MACC and even filed in courts, it seems that the villagers are not getting anywhere. The intervention by the State Government, CM Lim Guan Eng is not only ostracized by some of the the villagers, the developer now pointed out that it has hampered development in Penang in whole.
