This is a 1988 season review. It was a close battle for the championship and there is some great racing action. It briefly describes the changing AMA regulations such as carburetor restrictor plates and weight penalties, which hamstrung the Honda and enabled Harley to compete.

  • The ama handed harley and scott parker the championship. Instead of producing a better bike to keep up with the RS, they paid ama officials to make rule changes in their favor. You would have to be really numb in the skull to think adding 15lbs to a competitor's bike is fair. This was really bad for the sport in general. shame on you harley.

  • It's funny that you guys are posting this about Harley-Davidson and the Honda RS. Jared Mees Harley still kicking Ass against the likes of Honda RS750, Aprilia RSV1000, Aprilia RXV450, Aprilia RXV550, Aprilia SXV450, Aprilia SXV550, BMW F800, Buell 1200, Ducati 750 Pantah, Kawasaki 650R, KTM 950 LC8, Suzuki DL / TL1000, Suzuki SV650, Suzuki SV680, Suzuki SV750, Triumph 865, Yamaha XZ650FJ.

  • @rigd49 The funny thing is someone who knows nothing of the sport posting as if they did. Ya know i had to pull out some old ama rule books just to verify i wasnt the one full of sh*t. However if you LISTEN carefully bubbas bike was found to be 1.5 pounds under the limit for the syracuse race. Could XR motors from the 70s keep up with an unrestricted RS750 or an RSV1000 no! Does HD makes great bikes. yes! Harley paid officials so they could sell more bikes, is it not obvious?

  • It was 1.5 pounds not 15 pounds

  • @Rockman287W This is why Bubba Shobert said F' you to flat track racing
