1977 Evinrude 55 hp after tuneup

Same motor as as in one of my previous vids, but with a fresh tune up. New plugs, both carbs cleaned & rebuilt, new fuel lines, new impeller, new lower unit lube. I still need a motor side wiring plug & a new prop for this one, but it fires up & runs great & idles right down & slides into gear like it should. Towards the end of the vid, it shows me putting it into forward & reverse. Also, It is for sale if anyone is interested. SOLD

I just got this same model motor. Where exactly does the impeller shoot the water OUT? I dont see a pee hole. Does it pump back out above the earmuffs in the 3 pair of holes?

Hi - This model doesnt have a pee hole. You should be getting a little water out through the two long holes at the top back of the tower & the majority of water out of the prop - Hope this helps ..

hi i just bought a boat with same motor and i think i have same problem,. when i start it using garden hose, water does NOT pump on to top of tower where you are saying . is it supposed to ?

yup - you should get some out of the holes on the top of the tower - sounds like time for a new impeller

@mafhuntfish how long does the motor have to be running to get the water from top of tower ? maybe thermostat isnt opening

@TexasHand1989 you need to undo the shift linkage...there is a plate on the side of the shaft housing unscrew that and you will see the linkage, unscrew the bottom screw

So while the motor is in the water you cant visually see if your water pump is working? Is there a buzzer on the controls for that year model?

i got a 76 i like it,but lately i cant get it to idle,i just have to fire up and go which has got to be hell on the lower end,it had got to were it didnt want to run half power so we took the carbs apart and cleaned em so now it goes but wont idle so I dont know what the deal is.but I do believe the 55's are better than the 50's.
