For "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" composer Hans Zimmer wrote a piece of music titled "Parlay" that was based on Ennio Morricone's track "Man with a Harmonica" from the Sergio Leone spaghetti western "Once Upon a Time in the West". Here I've taken Zimmer's homage piece and placed it over the final duel between Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. The tracks are so similar that this works beautifully. It was because of the music featured in "Pirates of the Caribbean" that I rediscovered Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns and they are now some of my favorite films. This is my salute to them.
*Note* I do not possess the rights to either the movies or the music so this is a fanmade clip meant for entertainment purposes only.

  • Hans Zimmer GOD

    Ennio Morricone GOD

    They are both AWESOME!!

  • @tomsp1138 Agreed!

  • I'm a huge Morricone fan, but some of the more negative posters here really do need to get a life, or take their pill or something. I found this video to be an interesting illustration of how Zimmers Morricone homage would works in the scene that the original came from. I don't think the poster ever suggested that Zimmers version was better.

  • @MrSwanley You're absolutely right. I never tried to say Zimmer's version was better, only that he did a fantastic job creating an homage to the original.

  • Fucking horrible. Disgraceful even.

  • @RogueRotting360 I've definitely enjoyed the feedback, both good and bad, that this little video mash-up has gotten. It was a lot of fun to put together and I'd like to thank everyone who has taken the time to respond. I plan to put more videos like this one together soon so keep an eye out for them.

    Thanks, Glen

  • Every time i watced , PoTC , i had the strong thought that Mr Zimmer was paying a tribute to Master Ennio's legacy .

  • The score isn't bad at all, but IMO it's just a little too close to being a direct rip-off of the original, rather than a homage to Morricone.

  • welll done Hans , another great job

  • @justis90 i was talking figuratively and i dont believe in GOD since I was born :)

  • @tomsp1138

Nice music but people are not gods and thats true

  • It is truly interesting to see how composers pay homage to others work by the incorporation utilized in their pieces. This is a great example and it DOES fit both movies. Well done.

  • I find that the original music is less predictable than Hans Zimmers and reflects a death scenery better. Hans Zimmer did a great job with composing the POTC Music and i liked the way he used the E Guitar as a new element to the film music, but in context with a comedy movie the Morricone-Melody looses its power and seriousness, which I find vital for its timeless beauty.

  • i have seen the movie about 200 times.

    I love both.

and have to say thank YOU.... because without you, I would not have ever experienced this version.

forget the naysayers... youtube is full of the idiots.

  • I remember thinking how much the music from that sequence reminded me of OUATITW when I was watching it. Made me laugh cuz it was so perfect a match. Glad to know that some current artists know good stuff when they see and hear it.

  • Funny I remember watching that scene and thinking how much the music reminded me of OUATITW. There are a few writers and artists in Hollywood that still know good stuff we they see or hear it.
